Our Story

Meet the Founder

Chloe-Evelyn Mulwana

Chloe-Evelyn Mulwana

Founder, Age 16 · Uganda

"I love reading. For a lot of reasons — but mostly because of its power."

Imagine not knowing what a quadratic is… and two minutes later, thanks to a book, you've learned the foundations for launching a rocket into space. That's how powerful education and books are.

Over the summer when I was 15, I started thinking about how unfair it is that not everyone has access to such a valuable resource. While researching back home in Uganda, I found that many schools didn't have access to sufficient numbers of high-quality books or textbooks.

And then I came across something that really shocked me — in 2022, the Ugandan government distributed over 4,000 incorrect textbooks to schools. That statistic stuck with me.

I knew then that I wanted to help — and that's how WRITE4CHANGE, a non-profit, was born.

"In Uganda, the availability, quantity, and quality of library books in underprivileged schools is critically low, impacting educational quality."

What We Stand For

Our Mission & Values

To support underprivileged schools across Uganda by providing the necessary quality and quantity of library books and textbooks — tailored to the UNEB curriculum.

WHY?

  • For many families, purchasing educational materials is not feasible.
  • Many rural schools struggle with inadequate physical libraries and a severe lack of relevant textbooks, impacting educational quality.
  • Hard work should be enough — but without textbooks, even the most dedicated students are set up to struggle.

OUR MISSION

  • To support underprivileged schools across Uganda by providing the necessary quality and quantity of library books and textbooks.
  • Reading culture should be accessible to everyone, because writing and reading are essential tools for youth empowerment.
  • To create a platform where young and unheard voices can be amplified.

Access to Education

Reading culture should be accessible to everyone, because writing and reading are essential tools for youth empowerment.

Amplifying Voices

We seek to amplify the voices of those eager to use words to positively shape minds and narratives, especially young unheard voices.

Challenging Perspectives

We create a platform where readers can engage with thought-provoking and fresh content that challenges their perspectives.

Fostering Empathy

Writing has the power to enlist empathy — an essential element in today's society that we are proud to champion.

"I believe writing has the power to shape minds, amplify voices, change narratives, and enlist empathy. In a world where these four elements are constantly being exploited both ethically and unethically, I seek to amplify the voices of those eager to use words to positively shape minds and narratives."

From The Ground

Teacher Testimonials

Hear from the educators who witness the impact of WRITE4CHANGE every day in their classrooms.

"These textbooks have greatly helped us to improve the general performance of our learners in all classes. They can now read, write, and interpret questions correctly since they have access to these books. Our school enrollment has increased from 305 to 450 pupils due to the improved performance of our pupils."

"Before these books arrived, many of our students were sharing a single textbook between five or six pupils. Now each child has their own copy aligned to the UNEB curriculum. This has helped with how we teach and how they learn."
